Wang Jidong, Chairman of Guangxi Penshibao Co., Ltd., Attends the 7th United Nations Forum on Business and Human Rights

On November 26, 2018, Mr. Wang Jidong, Chairman of Guangxi Penshibao Co., Ltd., as a representative of Chinese private enterprises, was invited to attend the 7th United Nations Forum on Business and Human Rights held at the Palace of Nations, United Nations Office at Geneva, Switzerland. He submitted a written report to the Bureau and participated in discussions on relevant topics.

The Forum focused on topics including countries’ innovations, experiences and lessons in implementing the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, as well as integrating the rights of their people into human rights due diligence. Extensive and constructive discussions were held through keynote speeches and thematic forums.

During the conference, Chairman Wang Jidong pointed out that agricultural input safety and agricultural product safety are human rights issues that cannot be ignored, as they concern safeguarding the health of consumers.

As a member of the UN Global Compact, Guangxi Penshibao Co., Ltd. upholds its human rights responsibilities and attaches great importance to protecting the legitimate rights and interests of consumers. The company has long been committed to the R&D and production of green, low-carbon and environmentally friendly organic water-soluble fertilizers with independent intellectual property rights and national technical patents.

In recent years, the company has followed the green development philosophy advocated by the Chinese government and actively cooperated with the United Nations in human rights due diligence in the supply chain. It entrusted the National Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center of China to conduct trials on reducing chemical fertilizer application on 17 crops across 15 provinces and regions, including Guangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Liaoning, Jiangxi, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia and Tianjin. The results showed that reducing fertilizer use by 20% combined with Penshibao products still achieved good yield-increasing effects.

Trials on reducing pesticide residues in vegetables, fruits, tea and other crops in Shanghai, Fujian, Guangdong, Anhui, Qinghai, Xinjiang and other provinces and regions also achieved remarkable results. In addition, trials and demonstrations of selenium-rich agricultural and livestock products in Guangxi, Liaoning, Hunan, Guangdong, Heilongjiang and other provinces and regions have yielded expected outcomes.

By providing safe agricultural inputs and healthy agricultural products to the market, the company has effectively safeguarded the rights and interests of users and consumers, and played a positive role in promoting the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
